Happy New Year!
We wish everyone a very prosperous new year and we hope that everyone takes maximum opportunity to enjoy the natural world around them.
NEW
Cypripedium x ventricosum, three views of the same flower. Because of our warm winter several of our plants have broken dormancy and have had to be brought indoors. This plant flowered in early January.
Cypripedium acaule seedlings that have grown in flasks for one year and in pots for one year under lights. They are now ready for vernalization. These seedlings will be planted in a white pine forest at Gardens at Post Hill. In our area this species is very common in white pine forests or in forests with mixed white pine and hemlock. We do not have any wild Cypripedium acaule at Gardens at Post Hill, probably because the property was filled with horses until only three years ago. These seedlings were raised from seed collected close by so they will be genetically identical to the wild populations nearby. We will keep you posted about the progress of our reestablishment effort.
